★ GQ Magazine

Now that the iPad has “saved the magazine” business I can finally state my major annoyance with this new publishing model….there’s too many damn ads in it. There’s so many ads in the GQ iPad edition that the articles and ads blend together and its difficult to actually recognize the actual content. I don’t and haven’t read the print edition, so I don’t know if it’s any different, but I can tell you I won’t be buying any further iPad issues.GQ

★ Squarespace's new iPad app

Squarespace’s iPad app is pretty nice, can’t wait for future releases as it just lost 3 drafts that I wrote in it…..for now I think I will return to drafting in Simplenote as it autosaves and I don’t have to remember to save as I work.

★ Thinking about new golf clubs

After another ‘reasonable’ round of golf on Saturday I’m starting to really take an in depth look at the problematic parts of my game.

I hit the fairway 72% off the tee, that’s pretty decent for a 20 handicapper.

I hit greens in regulation about 24% of the time, that’s pretty ordinary for a 20 handicapper.

My scrambling is around 20%, that’s reasonable for a 20 handicapper.

My putting average is 1.98, that’s very decent for a 20 handicapper.

So the problem is my 2nd shot into the green, or 3rd on a par 5. I’m just not getting the consistency and length out of my 4, 5, & 6 irons.

My current Ping G5 irons were bought straight off the shelf, without a fitting or swing test, with very small amounts of adjustment in the length. For the right golfer I’m sure they are awesome irons, I think I’m probably not the right golfer for them though.

Anyway, long story short, I’m going out to look at new irons today. The main iron set I’m looking to test is the Taylormade Burner 2.0’s as there seems to be a lot of good reviews on them, and they’re also known as ‘improvement irons’. I’m also keen to check out the Titleist AP1 and AP2 sets, and also the mid-high handicap Ping and Callaway offerings.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

★ My promise to you

I swear I will actually do a little bit of blogging soon. Maybe even a recipe or 5.

Work’s been so hectic the last 4-5 weeks with a couple of fairly large projects that I’m heading up, and pretty much all my mind space has been devoted to those projects.

I’ve got a couple of weeks of holidays starting this Friday afternoon, and with that I’m hoping to have a little time to write a few words. I’ve got plenty of half written articles and a load of article ideas in SimpleNote / Notational Velocity from the times I’ve been in airport lounges, on planes, etc. so hopefully I should be able to get them properly written up and posted without too much hassle.

Anyway, chat soon.
