★ Apple iPad pre-order is on!

Well it had finally arrived, it’s iPad pre-order day here in Australia, and even though I’ve had an iPad for the last couple of weeks it’s still exciting enough that I’m up at 5am placing my order.

Pre-order the Apple iPad now!

Yes that’s right, I bought another iPad. Well actually work bought another one, the one that I’ve been using the last couple of weeks I’ll be passing over to my Dad and then I’ll use the new one that I just pre-ordered as the only thing that’s missing from the one I’m using now is 3G…..and for me that was only downside to using the wifi only iPad, some times I wanted to be away from my home and work wifi networks but still do stuff online.

Here’s what I ended up ordering;

  • Apple iPad 32gb Wifi + 3G
  • iPad case
  • iPad Dock
  • iPad Camera Connection Kit
  • iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adaptor
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard

Interestingly enough, I just received the order confirmation from Apple and it says “Delivery by May 28th”. I wont get my hopes up that Apple Australia will somehow deliver before the end of the month, but you never know.

The other big bit of news surrounding the iPad’s launch in Australia is the pricing. I think Apple have taken a lot of people by surprise, there’s a couple of readers of my blog who thought I was way off with my guess at Apple’s pricing for the iPad.

Now I just have to find out who is doing the data plans for the iPad. I’ll be avoiding Optus as their coverage outside of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, is woeful and in Newcastle where I live it’s pointless having anything Optus 3G unless you live next to the tower. Virgin and Vodafone aren’t any better, so that basically leaves 3 Mobile and Telstra. 3 Mobile roam on Telstra’s towers, so the coverage is good because Telstra has more towers out in the country than anyone else, however when you’re ‘roaming’ you only get 5mb (yes I said mb) to use before they start charging on top of your plan, so that only leaves Telstra.

Telstra, if you’re listening, I’d like 5gb for about $30 a month.

★ Jamón Serrano

Jamón Tapas

This is a follow on from my previous Tapas article, and there’s really no recipe for this one.

Get some nice crusty bread, I’m using Ciabatta here, and give it a quick grill in a lightly oiled griddle or pan. Once there’s a little bit of colour on it serve it up with some Jamón or Prosciutto on it.

Delicious and so simple!

★ Chorizo & Black Olive Tapanade

Chorizo & Black Olive Tapanade Tapas

For Mothers Day I’ve planned an early tapas dinner with Mum, and Dad, Cath, and Travis too, and so this weekend I’m playing around with various tapas style dishes to see what will and won’t work.

So far this Chorizo & Black Olive Tapanade plate is definitely getting served, it is so quick to make and damn tasty.

Basically I just grilled the Chorizo in a little Olive Oil, and served it on a pre-made Black Olive Tapanade with a couple of scallions finely sliced on top. Serve it with a crisp white wine. Mmmmm!
