iinet’s typos are awesome!

Ok, I’ve fallen in love with BoB. BoB is the new Belkin VOIP phone come wifi dsl router that iinet is currently promoting.

Anyway, I sent off a contact form on iinet’s website asking about it and seeing if it was possible to churn from our current Optus dsl over to iinet. Last night I got the following reply back from a customer service person at iiNet.

Can you spot the typo?

Hello Mat

Thank you for your email.

We appreciate you showing interest in our products. I have taken time to go through the details to check if the number you supplied qualifies for the the Ndsl ( BoB ) service and with regard to the line that you are having at your penises we are unable to provide the Ndsl service to you , however we do have other options available for you but i wil need to notify you that ywe will not be able to run the ohter form on Adsl on an optus line as we only work with a telstra line.

If you could kindly give us a cal so we can be able to discuss as to what we can be able to offer you.

For more information on our product please visit our website: http://www.iinet.net.au or contact us on 13 22 58.

Kind regards,

So, I guess that the line at my penises may need to be looked at…..anyone?

★ Moving hosts is like moving house, painful and frustrating at best!

For a while now I haven’t been happy with my hosting at Media Temple. I have a Dedicated Virtual (DV) account with them, as well as a Grid Service (GS) account, and host this blog, I’m With The Band, and the Newcastle Coffee Mornings website on it.

Considering that it’s a DV account, and not part of a shared grid, I would’ve thought that it would’ve easily been able to handle the traffic and databases for these couple of sites, but apparently not as I’ve had all sorts of slow loading issues and server problems, and really for the $50 odd I pay per month the support, ie. ‘you’ve got a DV account so you’re on your own’, has been lacking considerably. ★ Philadelphia Cream Cheese & Chives on an English Muffin

This is my favourite breakfast at the moment, and it’s somewhat healthy too.

Toast a muffin, top it with a load of Extra Light Philadelphia Cream Cheese spread, top liberally with Chives (cut fresh from the herb garden), and then eat. Wash it down with a big glass of OJ and it’s a good and tasty way to start the day.

Now it’s coffee time!

★ Apple Black Friday Deals, what can we expect?

A

s ‘Black Friday’ rapidly approaches there is more and more speculation as to what we can expect from Apple’s Black Friday Sales. Some of the savings are reported to be as much as 25% off of all Mac Hardware, ie. MacBooks, MacBook Pro’s, Mac Minis, etc. while other leaks are reporting that you can save up to 30% off of anything in the iPod lineup.

Even though Apple generally haven’t jumped at big discounts in the past, I’ll still be keeping my eyes peeled come Friday morning as there’s a few little bits and pieces I’ve been eyeing off accessory wise. So remember to bookmark ‘Apple’s Black Friday Sales Page‘.

★ Apple Magic Mouse

I

just bought a new Apple Magic Mouse. I think this is possibly the best mouse I’ve ever used. It feels fantastic in the hand, the multi-touch and gesture controls are fantastic (specially if you familiar with gestures on an Apple laptop), and being bluetooth there’s no cables anywhere.

Well done Apple, this Magic Mouse is awesome. So awesome in fact that I’m thinking of swapping out all my mice for the new Apple Magic Mouse.

★ Dang it was hot yesterday!

I

t was ridiculously hot yesterday in my part of Newcastle. At one stage the thermometer was showing 41.8 degrees C. That’s just insanely hot for this time of year, and this close to the coastline….and it was apparently only supposed to get to around 34 degrees.

The only good thing about temps like that is that we’ll normally get a big storm cell roll through afterward, and last night we got a cracker of a storm through. While it didn’t last long, it was certainly pretty intense.

Today is supposed to be 34 again, lets see if they get it right this time…..and tomorrow, well tomorrow they’re predicting 40 degrees for Newcastle. Man is it going to be a hot one!

More photos after the jump..

Photography portfolios I’m digging

Most photographers like checking out other photographers work. It something that goes with the territory because after all we all like photographs. So here’s a selection of photographers work that I’m really enjoying, let’s get started.

Chase Jarvis

Chase’s portfolio is really simply laid out, very easy to navigate, and most importantly full of really great imagery. Another big part of Chase’s portfolio is his blog where he shares copious quantities of information about his work, photographers he likes, and all sorts of little tips and tricks.

Warwick Saint

There’s some quite recognisable celebrity and muso faces in Warwick Saint’s portfolio. Names like Jaime King, Lady Gaga, Malin Ackerman, Bar Rafaeli, Eva Mendez, and Daniel Craig are easy to spot on his home page, and there’s certainly some recognisable images in the galleries. Another enjoyable part of Warwick’s portfolio is his about page which gives us an insight as to what’s driven his success.

Signe Vilstrup

Signe is a Danish photographer whose photography has appeared in many European advertising campaigns, countless magazines, and has worked with some quite famous models. His portfolio is a mixture of nicely toned black and whites, muted colours, and even the odd super saturated high colour set. The only let down for me is that it’s a flash based site and can be a little slow to load.

That’s only a small selection of the photographers whose work is inspiring me to try more, shoot more, strive for more connection with my images. There’s a whole bunch more, I could go on and on about Sarah Kehoe, Aneta Kowalczyk, Julie Pike, Marius Hansen, Paulo Sutch, and many others….but I wont in this post.

So go check out those portfolios, tell me who you think I should be checking out as well.
