★ Bigpond Movies might just get twitter

Recently there have been these really really annoying Bigpond Movies advertisements on a lot of the celebrity blogs promoting the availability of the movie Sex In The City through their service. Normally I’m pretty blind to a lot of web advertising, particularly in RSS feeds, but this advertisement caught my attention as it ‘auto played’ in my RSS reader even when I wasn’t actually looking at the particular RSS entry that the advertisement was in!

Being a bit grumpy that day I decided to voice my opinion on the adverts on Twitter, as did a few others.

Now from what I’ve experienced on twitter, facebook, myspace, etc. a lot of Australian companies just don’t understand social media, social networking, and exactly how powerful it can be, and how it can potentially damage their brand. Telstra has of course been guilty of this in the past, you only have to look at their initial handling of the Fake Stephen Conroy debacle to see that.

Well maybe times are changing now for Telstra, as it looks like Bigpond Movies not only addressed those who complained about the annoying advertisement they also engaged in conversation with twitter users rather than just broadcasting their tweets.

Kudos to bigpondmovies for getting involved in the conversation and actually addressing peoples concerns. I’d almost consider using Telstra services now….
