Link

This little bit of TextExpander & Markdown kung-fu from Dr Drang is awesome. Sure it’s been done before in other ways, for me however this one makes the most sense and slots into my writing workflow so easily.

The motivation is simple: you’re going to write a post, and your research links are open in tabs in your browser. Instead of creating the links one at a time as you write the post, you create them all in one fell swoop down at the bottom of the file and then refer to them as you write.

If you use it, just make sure you set the content type to Applescript!

Enable iPhone Airplane mode, keep WiFi while traveling

Traveling internationally with an iPhone can be extremely expensive. Even if you arrange for an international plan with your provider, it’s possible to find a staggering bill at the end of the month. Your best bet is to disable cellular data and restrict Internet access to Wi-Fi, but how can you be sure you’ve set your iPhone up properly? It’s easy with Airplane Mode and the Wi-Fi settings.

Handy tip from Dave Caolo on how to avoid great big roaming charges on your iPhone. I actually didn’t know you could enable Airplane Mode, but still have Wi-Fi turned on…I guess it makes sense when you consider you can have inflight Wi-Fi on some flights now, it just never clicked in my head.

Clean out the downloads folder with Hazel

If you’re like me, your Mac’s Downloads folder is full of long-forgotten mystery items, much like a college student’s refrigerator.

I bought Hazel ages ago, and while I have used it plenty of times to re-sort images into different folders, rename files, I’ve never thought to use the app it for something so simple, and so obvious. Doh!

Thanks Dave.
